Healthy Pride Includes Humility

They are really two parts of one process

In hermeticism, there is a principle: things that appear as opposites are often two sides of one coin. In reality, the coin is one whole object, and we simply confuse the two faces to be two separate objects.

The classic example is temperature. Hot and cold are directions along one scale: temperature, a type of kinetic energy stored in the substance. Hot and cold turn out to be one thing in different amounts — not opposites.

The Dangers of Separating Pride From Humility

Pride and humility are the same way. Pride is the hot side, and humility is the cold side. They are really a measure of one spiritual temperature, metaphorically.

Just like with heat temperature, there is a healthy range that is not too hot and not too cold for humans to live in.

Pride by itself is like the fallen Lucifer — the spiritual temperature becomes that of hell. We think we are so high and mighty that we fail to recognize our mistakes, which causes repeating cycles of suffering.

Humility by itself is just as bad.

When we are humble apart from pride, we cause similar repeating cycles of suffering, but in opposite style. Pride on its own makes…
