The 7 Principles of Hermetic Philosophy

A mix of ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Christian religious ideas to help you manifest a better life

Zachary Burres

1. The Principle of Mentalism

“The All is Mind; the Universe is Mental.”
— The Kybalion

The first principle of hermetic philosophy is that the whole universe, all matter and energy, all possible universes, are a manifestation of the mind of God. And we, created “in God’s image,” are a fragment of that mind.

That sounds nice, but what does it mean? It means that your thoughts are powerful, and when you change your thoughts, you are changing the fundamental conditions of the universe. This sets in motion a chain of events which influence and change every plane of reality, including the physical.

If you understand this first principle, then your ability to do mental transmutation is unlocked and revealed. Mental transmutation is that art of taking control of your thought patterns, applying the hermetic principles, and thereby manifesting whatever it is you want in your life.

2. The Principle of Correspondence

“As above, so below; as below, so above.”
— The Kybalion

If a change occurs on the mental plane, then that change also occurs in the spiritual and physical planes, according to the natural law of that plane.

For example, if you install a growth mindset in yourself on the mental plane, then your spiritual plane will feel the relief of having room to grow, and your physical plane will begin to reveal more opportunities to do so.

To use this principle, remember that changing one element of reality changes everything, and if one thing seems too difficult, try changing things on a higher level — remember…
