Another coffee after work
Your brain is overworked but you don’t care
You’ve got things to do, and dreams to work on making real
These are the opening lines to a single I recently released on November 9, where I try to paint a picture I see pretty often in people, including myself.
Sometimes we get so focused on working towards the future we want that we forget to enjoy the current moment.
My philosophy is that most things usually aren’t as urgent as they appear to be. I try to say that in the chorus:
Oh, go slowly, it will all be there tomorrow
I know how you like to rush
I know you’ve already got a head start on this month
But babe, you’re missing fun
Sure, the dishes need to get done.
Sure, you’ve got an assignment due tomorrow that you haven’t started.
Sure, you haven’t made “enough” art this week.
But who’s defining enough? It ought to be you.
Another headache,
You’re lost again in all the things you hate
You’ve got places to be,
But do they really make you as happy as you say?
If you’re feeling a little drained lately, why not take some time tonight to just sit, relax and listen to some music?
And if you’re into music with an acoustic indie vibe, you might like mine, which I’ve linked below.
Excuse the ridiculous image I made for it — I was just having fun. ;)
