Modern life is totally against nature. What we’ve built of society so far was built with the frontal lobe: thinking, abstract — and with no empathy for the natural cycles we are disturbing.

You’re taught not to follow your instincts. They are unthinking, which means blind by modern society’s estimation. How can blind instincts produce products, power, and profits? So we go on crushing our instincts, repressing our deepest desires, refusing to accept the fact that we are still animals.

Taoism is a philosophy from China that promotes oneness with nature, and a conscious return to instinct. The Tao, or “the way,” refers to the natural flow of events according to the laws of nature.

Our modern conundrum of being out of sync with nature, destroying and repressing it, can only be fixed by those of us willing to see: we are animals, we do have instincts, and there are patterns of our nature that we have been ignoring.

By relaxing into the Tao, the natural law of the universe, we can again become one with nature. We can live a life that goes with the flow, and therefore our life becomes close to effortless.
