Want to Be Better at Art? Make More. Way More.

Because eventually, more means better.

“Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.”

- Andy Worhol

Have you ever read a book about swimming? Probably not.

Can you swim? Probably pretty well, I’d bet. At least enough to enjoy being in a pool and not drown.

How did you learn it?

Maybe your family helped teach you, but ultimately, you learn to swim by hanging out in the shallow end and actually swimming.

Same with a bicycle. You don’t read about it. You start with training wheels so you’re not in too much danger, then your dad just gives you a shove and you start pedaling.

It’s the same with art.

Yeah, as a figure painter, you should probably study things like anatomy. As a musician, learn common song structures and watch tutorials on new songs.

Is this the best blog post in the world? No, the introduction might be too long. Maybe there’s a hundred other problems with it.

But the point is, I’m practicing.

Ultimately, you improve only…
