To Those Who Have Much, More Will Be Given
Stop projecting abundance into the future. Everything you want happens in the present.
The Vicious Matthew Principle
“For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”
— Matthew 25:29, NIV
At first glance, this Bible verse seems rather cruel. The speaker here even goes on to say to the have-not is worthless, and will be cast into the “outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
The phrase comes from the parable of the talents, where a wealthy man goes away on a journey. He gives his “talents,” represented as money, to his three servants for them to look after while he’s gone.
The first two servants go to work and double the money in their master’s absence. On his return, these servants are thanked and rewarded with additional things to take care of — and enter into “the joy of the master.”
The third servant feared his master, and buried the one talent he was charged with in the ground to keep it safe. The master denounces this one with the Matthew principle and the outer darkness.
