The Case For Masking
Nobody will ever understand you? GOOD.
What Is Masking?
“Every profound spirit needs a mask: even more, around every profound spirit a mask is growing continually, owing to the constantly false, namely shallow, interpretation of every word, every step, every sign of life he gives.”
— Friedrich Nietzsche, Beyond Good And Evil, Section 40
Masking refers to the false image of yourself that you offer other people for the purpose of smooth social interaction.
Deep, highly individuated souls have much more intense and specific passions than the normies. This scares both parties. The deep soul fears he will never be truly known or loved, and the normal people are freaked out by the deep soul’s intensity.
Often, the normies lack the attention span to understand the deep person, and the deep person lacks the patience and communication skill to explain himself. Or, he tries to explain himself, and gets stuck there, eventually boring or scaring away the normie.
Eventually, the deep person learns that the point of life is not to be understood by the masses — that’s what the masses value. You value something higher, something more specific to you.
If your individuality confuses people, let them be confused.
