The Alternative To Screaming

A poem

What has she done?
What has she done!

There lies my heart
On a skewer
Broken, bleeding

What has she done?
I ought to pour gasoline all over it
And be rid of the damn thing
And be rid of her
No heart, no pain, right?

No light either…
What has she done…

Fuming at the front door
Something floated in the corner of my eye

A raven’s feather drifting in the wind

I sighed
Grabbed my pierced heart
Shoved it back into my chest
And opened the door.

“Hey babe.”

She looked scared.
What have I done?

I said nothing
But hugged her
And we watched movies
And ate popcorn
And made love

What an alternative to screaming!

And I learned that day
To forgive.
