She Notices

A poem about self-love

She notices the little things
About me

Like giving me the job of frying chips
At her family’s
When I needed to feel useful

Like letting go of my hand while driving
At just the right time so I can turn

Like making perfect paintings for me
Of music and Buddhism and the stars

I noticed these things about her and fell in love

But I wonder if she notices how my heart skips beats
Sometimes crying sometimes smiling
When I think about her when she’s away

I wonder if she notices how beautiful her face is
When she’s happy painting

I wonder if she notices how strong her soul is
When she feels like dying on the couch but doesn’t

I wonder if she notices how brilliant a light she is
To me at least

I wonder if she notices all the little things
About herself that are so so so worth loving

My girlfriend is the sweetest person on Earth, but sometimes she doesn’t notice that
