Poetry Magnets Were My Favorite Gift This Year

2019 came with a lot of gifts — and lessons.

This Christmas, my sister got me a little box of poetry magnets. You know, to put on the fridge.

Now, every time I walk through my kitchen, I see the jumbled mess of words and think oh, right now seems like a wonderful time to make a poem.

And then I stand there, fiddling with and rearranging words on my fridge instead of doing the things on my to-do list, which also happens to rest beneath a magnet on my fridge…

At least in terms of frequency-of-use, then, those magnets are the best present this year.

Gifts (Lessons) From The Universe

My 2019 was full of stuff like the poetry magnets. Unexpected little things that screwed with what I thought were my goals, but in the end produced something new and a little magical, like a poem.

I learned (violently) to prioritize myself and creative goals over everything and everyone else

Going into the beginning of the year, I had just come out of a 5 year relationship and into a rebound one that lasted all of a month. To keep the story short, let’s just say: there were plenty of tears.
