Original Vessel
A poem inspired by Kabbalah
Glittering
Glittering
The world is a shattered thing
So very far from ideal
If you ever find one
One of those pieces
Glowing with crystal sheen
Help me reassemble
The glittering, glittering
Eternity’s wheel
From the current
Infernal machine
The Kabbalah is most associated with the “mystical” side of Judaism. The story goes that, before God created the world as it is today, he first created an infinitely perfect world. But whatever “vessel” he used couldn’t handle the brilliant awesomeness that was put in it, so it shattered, and settled into our present universe. The shards of the perfect-universe-vessel were nonetheless imbued with holy power and light, and scattered across our current universe, and it’s the fate of souls like us to rediscover these shards of light and raise them back up, and rebuild the universe as God originally intended.
Thanks for stopping by to read my poem and my understanding of one of the Kabbalah’s stories. If you’re in the mood to read another poem of mine:
