Meditation Is Relaxation
And you can practice feeling it all the time
“Nothing, to my way of thinking, is a better proof of a well-ordered mind than a man’s ability to stop just where he is and pass some time in his own company.”
— Seneca
What Is Relaxation?
Relaxation is the opposite of, and the antidote to, stress. When we are stressed, our bodies prepare for intense action with increased heart rate and blood pressure, quick shallow breathing, and tense muscles. Evolutionarily speaking, this was helpful to us. When attacked by some monster, it’s usually a good idea to be ready to run or fight. We divert power away from healing and thinking towards sudden and violent action.
The opposite process — slowing down, breathing deeper, letting tension go — reactivates our ability to heal and think. People who are relaxed can remember things easily and more clearly. They have the mental space needed to think. People who relax often have healthier bodies, because their bodies have the downtime needed to repair things. A quiet mind and a healthy body are more connected to intuition, that quiet inner guidance towards what is right.
With all that in mind, it’s easy to conclude: you are most powerful when you are relaxed. Joy arises naturally. Your true purpose has an easier time revealing…
