Magnifying Glass

A poem

A quiet house
Two coffees breathing morning steam

“You’ve come to show me a poem?”

“My latest!”
I handed him a magnifying glass

Hand outstretched
With the circle around me
And one eye closed
He said, after a pause:

“I don’t get it.”

This poem was inspired by a quote:

“This artist is ambitious and nothing more; ultimately, however, his work is only a magnifying-glass, which he offers to everyone who looks in his direction.”
— Nietzsche
