If You Want To Be At Peace, Change Your Mind
All of our troubles and treasures originate in mental habit
Wise People Apply Their Mind Differently
The average person is conditioned to believe that circumstances are responsible for their well-being and happiness. If only we had enough money, if only we had enough respect, if only we had enough time, then we would be able to live happily.
The habit of mind behind that attitude is: we humans are but small, physical creatures who must work hard to survive. This conditioning benefits the “dominator culture” (as Terence McKenna calls it) who gave it to us.
But we are more than physical, we have the mind. Right now, you are conscious of reading — words that conjure images, sounds, and feelings within.
By immaterial acts of will, you can summon different images, or change them altogether. You can imagine unfamiliar places, new thoughts. You could make up a bird, see it vividly, and hear it singing.
We can use the mind to create mental images, sounds, and feelings of disempowering fear. Or, we can train it to produce different images, sounds, and feelings on a regular basis — ones that grow into the faith and discipline needed to rise above your current circumstances.
