I think that's the point though-- the guru teaches "nothing matters" and you go along naively thinking you're getting rid of suffering. But then you reach the void of complete dissociation. There, it becomes obvious: that's not at all what I want, there are things important to me. Like dissociating from everything reveals what is truly important through all the things you miss the most. And then with your new dissociative powers, you go back to pursuing the highest values, without distraction from the lesser things.
