How To Overcome Creative Block
One simple strategy I use
When you talk normally, do you use a script? Probably not, that would be weird.
When you talk, you are improvising content, language, and music. So improvisation is a skill that everybody, who can at least talk, wields.
Just to further that point: you also do it when you walk across the room to grab something. Did you thoroughly plan your trajectory, or precisely how you would hold the object?
No, you just naturally and automatically improvise a path and the motions necessary to grab the thing.
Likewise, if you wanted to imagine the image of a mountain, do you painstakingly construct each element of the image?
No, it just kind of comes however it comes when you ask it to. Then you can change things about it.
You’re already great at improvising.
You’re just not used to improvising whatever you’re trying to create.
Free-write whatever’s on your mind. Doodle random shapes. Noodle on your instrument.
No matter how simple or rugged it comes, you can improvise something.
Then, once you have it manifested outside your mind, you can begin to edit it into something that fits your…
