How To Develop A Following From Scratch On Social Media

1. Choose Two Or Three Platforms

Ideally, you would be super active on ALL platforms all the time. But that’s ridiculous and overwhelming. It’s better to make slow but sustainable progress and stay sane.

If more than one platform still sounds overwhelming, it’s OK to start with one and someday branch out when you’re ready.

It would be best to have at least two, eventually, so that all your eggs aren’t in one basket. If your favorite social media platform broke or suddenly went out of business, you could be left with nothing after months of hard work developing a following on there.

How do I choose?

I recommend using at least one “big” social media, like Instagram or Twitter, because of their stability and popularity. Pretty much everyone has a Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

Choose whatever seems easiest to deal with. If you already love photography or graphics, do Instagram, for example. Ultimately, how you use the platform matters more than which one you pick.
