Who Is Friedrich Nietzsche?

Nietzsche is a philosopher of the later half of the 1800’s, known for a life of isolation, insanity, and vehement protest against everything western society had believed until his time.

In one of his most influential books, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Nietzsche declares that God is dead and we have killed him. Western society, characterized by Europe at the time, had killed the very concept of God by replacing faith with reason, science, industry and politics.

In the wake of this psychological upheaval, Nietzsche foresaw the meaninglessness and terror that would follow. Regardless of the truth or untruth of God, the idea had protected people, giving their lives meaning and structure. With this structure gone, it was only a matter of time before people filled the God-sized hole in their hearts with statism, leading to the wars and destruction of the 20th century, and the soulless consumerism of today.

In the same book, and throughout his work, Nietzsche proposes an alternative path. The free spirits of the future would take the death of God in stride, and build their own fresh values from scratch, through the unification of their own biological and…
