Philosophy Is The Ability To Think For Yourself

Most people when they hear the word philosophy think that it means obsessively reading really long and dense books written by dead boring people. It can be, but that usually means you’re doing it wrong.

Philosophy comes from a Greek word meaning “love of wisdom.” Reading is how we absorb and learn about a philosophy, but the point is to gather nuggets of wisdom that change our perspective, which change our behavior, which change our life, for the better.

In other words: philosophy is the ability to see and impose order on the mind, through language.

This process of changing your beliefs can be consciously directed by you — building beliefs that lead you to beautiful experiences — or this process can be controlled by others who want to control you, building beliefs in you that serve their goals instead.

Studying philosophy makes you aware of your beliefs, and aware of the strategies people use to change beliefs. In this way, you become protected from intellectual manipulation, protected from your own ego, and empowered to create the kind of beliefs that are true and…
