As Above

A poem about the source of truth

We call our sun “THE”
Because that’s what we were taught

But Truth is so much bigger

Our star came from dead ones
And there are others still

Millions and billions and so on
Not to mention the ones not yet with us

As above, so below
There are seven billion stars on Earth

Thanks for reading! I wrote this poem thinking about how what’s accepted in the culture really comes from the collective effort of individuals.

The individual is a star — something internal generates what we consider light, or truth. Or some part of truth. The interaction between who we are and the world is what’s responsible for our ability to see… (Alan Watts and Jordan Peterson talk a lot about that.)

If there was no world, we wouldn’t see anything. If stars didn’t emit light, we wouldn’t see anything. Likewise, objective facts are responsible for some of culture, but the other half is due to choices made by individuals.

Like mentioned in the Bible, though, most people keep their light hidden under a bowl.
