“The Word” is the backbone of western belief. This is the mysterious truth that there appears to be a cosmic order. This is the central concept of Christianity, and the basis for science.

Some force holds the universe together and governs its motions. Perhaps it itself is alive. Humans have learned, especially through language, that this ordering force can be studied, understood, used.

The Word applied to ourselves developed into Christianity. The Word applied to the world developed into science. In this article, I’ll explore six concepts closely associated with the cosmic ordering force known as The Word.

Spread the word I’m thinking of
Have you heard the word is love?”

These lyrics by the Beatles say it all. The “good news” that Christ represents in its most essential form is: love is possible in this very life. In fact, the whole spirit, mechanism, and purpose of the universe is love.

For humans, love is the force which organizes and justifies life. That is the law that is written on our hearts. Every heart craves joy, peace, expansion…
