Who Is Søren Kierkegaard?

Born in May of 1813 in the country of Denmark, Søren Kierkegaard was a philosopher, poet, and is considered to be one of the first existentialist philosophers.

Existentialism is basically the philosophy of the individual experience — how individuals cope with the absurdity, terror, and meaningless of existing.

Kierkegaard’s work deals with how the individual can overcome his existential angst by developing his relationship with God and Jesus Christ.

Like Nietzsche, Kierkegaard attacks the institution of Christianity, while lauding Christ and trying to edify individual Christians.
