Your Guilt Is Not Your Fault

“ ‘He who seeks, easily gets lost. All loneliness is guilt.’ — thus speaks the herd. And you have long belonged to the herd.”
Friedrich Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra

If you are a creative, then you threaten the status quo of the world. “The herd” values safety above all else, because that’s the best they can think of. You, though, have a vision for your life that goes beyond mere security and into joyful, free expression. How selfish!

If you feel guilty for wanting a better life, it’s not your fault. The system which provides comfort for the masses is designed to make you feel that way. Too many creative people doing their own thing would break the system, so we beat it out of most of them in school.

Though you hate to admit it, “the herd” made you. You would not be so privileged to be a creative without their support. Somewhere deep down, you care for them. That’s why it hurts to realize you do not want the same things as they do.

But you must choose: “fit in” to the comfortable world, at the expense of your joy and your soul — or unleash your creative will and stand alone — and free.
